Open to collaboration

Hello

I design interfaces and build them too, from the colour tokens up to the thing you click. Most of that is design systems, the frontends that sit on them, and the small tools that come out of building both.

The code is on GitHub, the type and colour experiments on Figma, and the interface snippets on CodePen. I also write about design systems and the words we use in them.

Journey

journey

I have worked for nearly three years as a software engineer on a SaaS platform, building product features in React and TypeScript and writing the regression, load and canary suites that test them. Before that came five years of frontend and ecommerce work: storefronts and ERP integrations, and agency client sites on most of the site builders.

I also run a small studio, where I design and build client sites and the internal app the studio runs on, and I publish a design system and the tools around it.

haus is the design system everything else here is built on, token-first in OKLCH and published to npm as five packages. drift takes a URL and reports the design system that site actually ships, crawled with Playwright and deduplicated on perceptual colour distance. core is a team decision log with a permission-gated lifecycle and two audit trails, and vault is an offline Mac app for colour and type, Electron over native SQLite. Pendula covers the two test suites I wrote for a customer-engagement platform, BDD regression in Cucumber and canary and load tests in k6.

The small tools are standalone and each one is live on its own domain. They cover CSS parsing, colour science and simulation, and all of them sit on kern, the shared layer underneath. The essays so far cover defaults, naming, motion and colour scales in design systems. Snippets collects the motion and interaction techniques that come out of client work, each one a live demo with the source next to it.

The particulars

the particulars

This site is set in Parkinsans and Geist Mono, coloured in OKLCH across eleven palettes, and built on haus, my design system, with kern underneath the small tools. The tokens follow W3C DTCG, the code is TypeScript and React on Next.js, GSAP handles the motion, Vitest and Playwright test it, and Vercel serves it.

I am always up for collaborating. If you are building something and want a hand with the design system, the frontend, or the part in between, I would love to hear about it.
